What is Supramolecular assembly?

A supramolecular assembly is the combined type of molecular integrations in the complex structure
in the form of covalent bonds. More than one molecule are joint tougher for particular purpose in the supramolecular assembly. Molecules are combined in the form of sphere or rod and are used especially in complex procedures where accurate results are to be found such as DNA and compound inclusion. Supra molecular assembly has vast dimensions from micrometers to nano meters up to 100 nm. They normally allow the assembly by using bottom up approach of nanotechnology. It has the advantage over self assembly that it can assemble the particles in fewer steps as compared to the self assembly technique.
How supramolecular assembly works?
Its working is similar to the self assembly technique but its processes are different. In the process of supramolecular assembly the molecules aggregates and develops high structures than those created by self assembly. Some of the examples of supra molecular assembly are the liquid crystals and polymers in the block form. It combines the particles with the same properties together in order to form a new structure in the lesser time. Cylindrical assemblies are formed in supra molecular assembly instead of vertical and horizontal assembly.
Before the arrival of supra molecular assembly the most dominating technique for holding up particles was self assembly. But the scientists from the Northwestern University (Samuel Stepp and Coworkers) showed the first experiment of supra molecular assembly. Assembling the peptide amphiphiles in the form of carbon, this greatly supports the flow of neurons in the materials. The reaction was exactly like self assembly but the number steps were less. This technique was named as supra molecular assembly after this experiment. With the passage of time it became famous world wide and scientists stared using it for developing new components and also to better understand the hidden properties of existing materials.
Applications of supramolecular Assembly.
There are many applications of supramolecular assembly just like the self assembly technique. It is used for the various purposes in the many work areas such as biology, material sciences, chemistry and many more. Some of its applications are
- Liquid crystalline lattices.
- Biological interfaces of molecular structures.
- Transfer of protons in vesicular membrane.
- Acidic concentration enahmncmment.
- High speed power batteries.
- Large battery time of solar cells.
Advantages of supramolecular assembly
Remarkable progress in the field of chemistry has encouraged the supra molecular assembly for the creation of new structures. Following are the advantages of supra molecular assembly

Supra molecular assembly is one of the emerging concepts in the field of nano sciences. Any new components and molecular arrangements can be determined with the help of supra molecular assembly approach. It’s still under the phase of development and can be seen at top ten designing techniques in the near future. Like other assembling techniques it has its own importance and useful applications. The factor which fascinates the researchers and scientists for focusing this technology is its wonderful cylindrical arrangements and lower assembly time. Supra molecular dynamics which is the sub study field of supra molecular assembly is under development.
