What is Municipal Broadband

Municipal broadband is broadband internet access service which is provided by government or partially by government and private companies. These services are provided by licensed or unlicensed wireless connections and fiber-optic connections. These services are famous as Wi-Fi, Wimax and wireless mesh networks. Municipal broadband network solutions are becoming popular day by day as users are coming to know about these internet access services. Most of the access points are wirelessly used and are accessed because of some access points. These access points help the users so that they can avail good quality of audio and video services for most of the time free of cost. But the most popular among all is municipal fiber-optic networks, they are best at providing internet services.

How Municipal Broadband Network Works:

When it comes about the working of municipal broadband networks then mostly mesh networking is preferred over hub and spoke distribution model. These models are not as reliable sources to be used for broadband network services. Mesh networking work in the form of nodes, where each node is connected to other node. So that if one node is not able to provide network services properly then the other connected relay node can transfer the data in the network. The only reason of using mesh network in municipal broadband is that networks reliability can be increased. In mesh network more access points and radios are being added. And all these additional radios within each node enable it to support multiple functions and also reduce its cost and size. In a single node multiple radio cards or modules can be used so that unique set of frequency and functions can be controlled.

Now wireless router are introduced so that secure internet connections can be made. These routers are just added in the existing network of municipal broadband. These routers are always reliable but if some how any router fails to work then it does not mean that municipal broadband network will not work for all the users. It just means that internet connection will not be available within some specific area that uses to be covered by that router.

Advantages of Using Municipal Broadband Network:

One of the biggest advantage from consumers point of view is that this services allow them to use high speed internet any where with ease and free of cost. And if it is not totally free then it would surely be cheaper then any other broadband service provider. With this these networks are increasing the competition in the market of broadband services and also boosting the economical development. Competition always help in bringing the cost down and make municipal broadband network available to all class of consumers.

Another advantage that is associated with municipal broadband is that work productivity is rising time by time. It means that information can be obtained at any place when it is needed by anyone. This way is also known as remote access to information with the help of municipal broadband networks. This remote access is available for all the users without any difference in the class. With this intelligent transport system helps the secure transfer of sensitive information and help in checking the reports when inspections are conducted. One idea after the introduction of municipal broadband is that this service will make the businesses more attractive now especially if those businesses are linked with high-tech and research. Now for long distance communications businesses don’t have to hire their representatives in different countries for international dealing. They can communicate with international clients without their physical presence there. And this is just possible because of municipal broadband.

Disadvantages of Using Municipal Broadband Network:

There are always countless advantages of using municipal broadband but with that there are also some disadvantages associates with this network. The only disadvantage is that this broadband network has issues with legal implications. All of those implications must be fulfilled before installation of this network in any area. Still this is a new concept in many countries so it is mostly regulated by individual state guide lines and standards.
