Linux is an open source operating system which provides its users the maximum flexibility to use and modify the code according to their choice. However, who is that users who knows to modify the code. Definitely they are trained professionals and network administrators who have expertise and skills to understand and modify codes. Therefore one can say that Linux is not an OS for layman and common person.

Main Disadvantages of using Linux

Linux is an open source operating system which has not released any standard edition so far. There are many variations of Linux which makes it harder for the ultimate buyer to choose the best one. It is really difficult for the new users to use and work well with the Linux OS. Moreover its interface is not that user friendly. One has to get used to it in order to operate it well. Linux is not really popular this is the reason why it is really difficult to find solution to the problems. Most of the programs that work really well with the other Operating systems like Windows run really slow with Linux operating system. Linux OS is considered good to support the hardware peripheral devices and this is due to the patchier mode. Linux is an operating system which provides full control to the users but for that reason the user must get used to it. Therefore the expertise needed to run an operating system does not come in days.

Market for Linux

Linux is always appreciated for its superior error detection then why is it still not that popular? And why that is the market share of Linux is still really limited.  The most obvious reason is that Linux is not a commercial product like Windows and they do not aim to target home users like Windows did. However some other reasons are that it is not that user friendly. The GUI needs improvement.  The complex use of Linux makes it undesirable for the corporate world to use it. The corporate world always tries to minimize their costs in terms of every aspect. Linux is an operating system which require constant monitoring every time and support from the experts. As a result the company has to bear an additional expense of hiring experts in order to take care of the system. Therefore companies rather prefer more automated operating systems.  This is the reason why Linux failed to target such a huge market that is the corporate world and Microsoft Windows took its place.

Some More Reasons

If you ask me to jot down the disadvantages of the Linux I may not be able to exactly write down the disadvantages of using this OS. However there are many reasons why it is not that popular and besides being so secure was not able to capture big market share. Some smart and high end applications can not be find easily on Linux. Windows have been able to produce many smart and user friendly applications like adobe Photoshop. Linux fail to develop such software over the years. The youngsters find it appealing to use windows because it gives them wide variety of playing games, installing them and playing them online. Some users also complain that resource sharing is still difficult using Linux as there is difficulty in taking prints.  Linux is an open source software and hence it does not give the users right to go for legal actions. It is open source and leaves the full control to the end user and in case of any mishap he or she is unable to take the complain to any one. However in case of commercial operating systems the company bears the responsibility of any failures.
