What is scada computer system

What is SCADA Computer System?

SCADA is the abbreviation of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition. It is type of computer system that is used in industrial fields or in the factory like location to monitors and mange the different type of process of the industry for the sake of good production and also deals with different type of distribution systems and also take part in controlling different activities of a particular plan are called as the SCADA computer systems.  The process which are include or associated with the SCADA systems are the power generation, production of industry, water treatments etc.

What are the Components of SCADA Computer Systems?
There are different type of important components of the SCADA computer systems that take part in their working for the sake of monitoring and managing. Some of the important components that are the part of SCADA systems are listed below.

  1. Human Machine Interface HMI.
  2. Remote Terminal Units RTU
  3. Communicational Infrastructure.
  4. Logic Controller Programmable
  5. Supervisory System

Human Machine Interface HMI:
The first component of the SCADA computer systems is of major category and it take all the responsibility of processing the machine data and then showed it to the operator that is human and then operator with the help of such system tale charge of monitoring.

Remote Terminal Units:
Another important component of SCADC computers is the RTU which are required to convert all the sensoring information into the digital data and then this data will be forward to the supervisory.

Supervisory System:
Supervisory system in the SCADA computer system collects all the information processing by the remote terminal units and then process then forward them to the new section.

Logic Controller:
Next component of the SCADA computers are the logic controllers which are programmable in nature. Basically they are used in comparison with RTU. As compared to them they perform special functions with more flexibility, economically and commercially.

Communication Infrastructure:
The last components of the SCADA computer systems are the communicational protocols that can produce the site of attachment of the supervisory to remote terminal units for processing.

Architecture of SCADA Computers:
If we talk about the architecture of the SCADA computer systems then we have come to know that when these systems were invented hey are totally belongs to the mainframe computers. Because when SCADA computer systems were introduced, there is no networking like wide area networks or local area networks. In nature such systems are independent from different type of servers and do not show connectivity with the other systems. Later with the help pf further changes WAN was introduced in the architecture of the SCADA computer systems. On the basis of the architecture the there are three different names of three different generations of the SCADA computer systems such as first generation is called as the Monolithic, after that next generation is referee to as the Distributed systems and the last and the final one is known as the networked systems.

Benefits of SCADA Computer Systems:
There are lots pf benefits of the SCADA computers because they are very much supportive in the field of industry and in different type of factory plants. Keeping view the duties of the SCADA computers some of the important benefits or advantages are listed as follows

  1. They are not dependant on any other systems like servers and perform all the task on their own.
  2. They can easily mange the production of the particular industry by monitoring different aspects and at low power.
  3. Good and enhanced production is one of the major advantages of the SCADA computers.
