RTP is the abbreviation of Real-time Transport Protocol. It is also a transmission method on the networks. Basically this protocol was designed to carry on the transmission of the data related to the media files such as audio and the video files from one place to another with the help of packet technology. These packets are generally related with the internet protocol. Different types of entertainment and the communicational systems are associated with the RTP. It also provides high speed connectivity for the users to enjoy fast networking between two points.
History of RTP:
If we discuss the background of the real time transport protocol, then we have come to know about this technology established in 1989 as a result of different experiments on the audio video systems by a working group of that time. Then this protocol was legally published in 1996 and benefited the users. Nowadays further experiments are carried out in enhancing the performance of the real time transport protocol or RTP.
How RTP Works?
Working of the real time transport protocol is quite similar to that of the other protocols like internet protocol or TCP. But RTP deals with the real time or the different type of multimedia applications and transfer them from one place to another. It was genuinely designed for such purposes that users can enjoy the audio video transfer from one end to another. It was introduced to carry on the different types of video conferences between distances. It does not support the quality but it only supports the transmission of multitasking over network. All the working of the RTP is controlled or managed with the help of other protocol called as the RTCP. Another important aspect of the real time transport protocol working is that they are not dependant on the specific form of layers like other modes of data transmission. There are different applications that are involved in the working of the RT but the common application that uses RTP is telecommunication.
Applications of Real time Transport Protocol:
All the applications of the RTP deals with the multimedia and also applicable on different devices that enable media, some important applications of the real time transport protocol are MPEG-4, H.264, MPEG, MJPEG etc. MP3 formats also included in the RTP.

Several components are involved in the real time transport protocol to maintain the transmission. Some components that deals with the specification of RTP are listed below
Data Transfer Protocol:
First component of the RTP is the data transfer protocol. This protocol deals with all the data transferring over the network by RTP such as audio or video etc. Basically it is used to code the sequence and the amount of the packets of data that are going to be transfer from one place to another.
Other component that determines the specifications of the RTP is the RTCP. It was designed to examine the service quality and also deals with the information feedback of applications. RTP consists of higher bandwidth as compared to RTCP.
Systems Based on RTP:
Different types of systems are also constructed with the help of fusion of Real-time Transport Protocol with the other protocols of the computer networking like SIP, RTSP and many more of the related field. And these protocols are generally used for the starting then monitoring and also quieting the applications or processes. RTP is the vase of all the systems and can manage the real data, then encoded it and with the help of network transmitted from one device to another device. All the transmission through RTP based systems is carried out in the form of packets.
