How to lower CPU usage
Introduction
Any machine’s efficiency is affected by its heating up. If a machine heats up it requires greater energy to do the same work. So it is important to lower the temperature of the machine in order to make it efficient. Similarly when a computer’s CPU is heated up it decreases its performance. So it is important to control the CPU’s temperature.

Importance
A CPU which is the abbreviation for central processing unit is a computer’s main processing unit. It performs calculations and logic decisions so that the computer can run. If this CPU executes calculations continuously it becomes over heated as a result its performance slows down from the normal. If we lower CPU usage it will amplify the computing speed and will lessen the probability of harm caused by over heating.
Ways of lowering CPU usage
1. CHANGING HABBITS OF USING
The simplest way to decrease CPU usage is to change your way of using computer. You should not run numerous programs at a time the lesser programs you run at a time there will be less burden on your CPU.
2. AVIOD MULTITASKING
• As soon as you are finished with a program you should close it and be sure that you have closed the program from the task bar. Multitasking lowers your computer performance especially for the programs which require incredible amount of CPU usage (for instance watching a video or conversion of file formats.
• Similarly computer games require a lot of energy so you should run solely the game while playing as you usually don’t do other work while playing.
3. AVIOD TOO MANY DESKTOP ICONS
Having a lot of desktop icons also lowers the performance of the CPU so you should have only necessary icons on the desktop.
4. AVIOD RUNNING OF UNNECESSARY PROGRAMS
Another way is to restrict the automatic running of unnecessary programs and processes in the background on starting of your windows without your own will or will start up without any of your action. You can select and cancel applications and programs which are not in your use by using a task manager (short cut key = hold ctrl+alt+Del at a time).
5. LOWERING NUMBER OF START UP PROGRAMS
If you want to enhance the boot speed you can do it by lowering the number of start up programs that is being launched by your computer every time you turn on your computer. To change the setting you have to first go to the start up menu then run then type in the box “msconfig” and hit “ok” button. You can then decide the program you want to disable or unable under the “Startup” tab.
6. KEEPING YOUR CPU COOL
The greatest hindrances in any machines performance is caused of its heating up. If the CPU of a computer heats up it also lowers its efficiency just like any other machine. The hotter it is the more energy will be required to work for the same operation. This can be avoided by having more fans for your computer for greater ail circulation resulting in an increase in its performance.
While locating your computer make sure that it is placed in a cooler place where it does not contact with direct sun light because it increases the chances of its heating up. If you cannot pay for using air conditions for your computer you should run your computer with an external fan blowing across the motherboard as a temporary measure until you can afford another way of cooling your PC. There is an ability to check your CPU temperature by going in the BIOS setup utility during startup, or also by running a free diagnostic program such as Speed Fan.
