IPX and the SPX protocol

Novell is a type of company that is used to design and produces such type of operating systems that can support the multitasking and different type of services related to such frame. The common or the famous example of such type of operating systems is the Netware. Novell produce such operating system since 1983. There are different types of protocols used in maintaining the networking performance of the Novell operating systems but the two important protocols that are used to manage the networking are IPX and SPX. They are generally used and applicable over local area networks

IPX and SPX:
IPX and the SPX protocol is the abbreviation of the Internetwork Packet Exchange and Sequenced Packet Exchange. These protocols are generally associated with the Novel Netware networking systems. These are the Novel own protocols that has been designed by them to mange their services of networking. IPX and SPX are developed by using the XNS and they are totally belong go the Xerox family of networking protocols. IPX and SPX protocols represent the layer protocols also such as network layer and transparent layer protocol respectively. These two protocols of the Novel Netware systems are dependant on the servers and user or the operator need at least one server to carry on the networking through these protocols. Some times SPX protocols are dependant on IPX.

How IPX and SPX Works?
It is type of suite if two protocols mainly deal with the networking of the Novell NetWare systems. They work in the specific manner by developing a relation between the workstation of the computer systems or the networks. The working of the IPX and SPX provide different type protocols for transporting the data and for the sake of communication between the server and the networking files associated with the Novell systems. The main purpose of using the IPX and SPX protocols suite is that they can restrict the use of multi type of protocols for networking. The working performance of these protocols of the NetWare systems is quite efficient to other and need low maintenance. There are three different types of components are involved in the working of the IPX and the SPX. The description of these component of the protocols are given below

Kernel:
This component of the IPX and SPX protocol consist of different type of drivers or softwares that governs the working of the suite and the networks. For example a type of driver naming STREAMS is used in the both cases of protocols. In the IPX it deals with the Data Link Provider Interface and can support the connectionless services of the Novell. But in the case of SPX it deals with the services related to the Transport layer Interface. Being a component of working of the IPX and SPX it can also support the NVT of the NetWare systems and IPX is essential for running such services.

User Components:
The second component of the IPX and SPX is the user component. It is not a single protocol component but it is a type of component that comprised on different type of protocols. With the help of this component server can tell the users about the Novell NetWare services. And all the protocols used in this component have different jobs for example.

  1. For starting or compiling the first component NPSD Netware Protocol Stack daemon is used.
  2. For the development of the connection between the user and the server Novell Virtual Terminal daemon NVTD is used.

DOS:
The third and the last component of IPX and SPX is DOS, which is required to develop a connection or setup between DOS client and the server for the sake f networking and administration.
