Wireless bridges
Wireless bridges are used to make network connections between two local area networks. It is known as a radio based device that permits communication between the two networks, sitting at two different remote locations. Wireless bridge is most likely a hardware devices however many operating systems like windows and MAC also provide operating system support to bridge network protocols. The wireless access points provide a bridge node for network communication. The bridge mode is able to connect with different network protocols. Wireless bridges are conformed to the 802.11 standards like IEEE802.11a, IEEE802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n. Wireless bridges can work along point to point and point to multi point connections. The need for wireless bridges arouse when the need for connecting two remote networks was felt. For example suppose same business ahs two different operations in two different buildings and they are located in the same town. They can use wireless bridges to lay out physical network between the two buildings.
Setting up a wireless bridge
The set up of wireless bridge involve series of steps. First of all the manual configuration of the IP addresses is a necessary step before proceeding to next steps. For this purpose simply open the control panel and click on the properties of the IP, set the IP address and enter default gateway. Second step is to use an internet browser and connect to a router. Click on the wireless setting and select client bridge, this would enable you to set the wireless network mode. In order to secure the networks click on wireless security and select WPA. Click the site survey button and join the available wireless network. This would complete the bridge set up and now it ready for test. After the completion of IP automatic assignment, unplug the network cable from the computer terminals and reconnect again. After this step PC would receive the IP address assigned by the router. If the PC does not receive an IP address, that means it is time to check the bridge settings again. It is important to check here if the primary router is working well and configured to filter MAC address filtering. This wireless bridge set up saves a lot of network cost and maintenance cost overtime.
Advantages of Wireless Bridge
Some advantages of wireless bridge are that you can use it in infrastructure mode to connect with computers, game consoles, and even be able to set top boxes to your wireless network consisting of a wireless router and joint high speed internet connection. However, it must be noted that the main advantage of a wireless bridge is that you are able to connect any Ethernet authorized device to a wireless network without having to worry about installing drivers. Another obvious advantage of this wireless bridge is that you don’t have as many wires to deal with in your home. By the name of it, it might sound pretty complex but in fact a wireless bridge is pretty simple to setup which is also another advantage that should be considered. You may simply use the setup wizard provided by the seller to have it up and running or you may choose to set it up yourself. If you choose to set it up yourself all you have to do is go to your web browser and configure the network settings, wireless name, SSID and wireless security features, and before you know it your wireless bridge will be up and running.
