Fiber distributed Data Interface (fddi)

There are many different types of components that are used in networking; another important component of networking that is associated with LAN or local area networks is fiber distributed data interface or FDDI. Typically it is the line that is connected with the local are networks for the sake of communication and data transmission from, one location to another and can be able to provide speed up to 100 Mbits/s from optical sources is referred to as the FDDI. Another important feature of these lines is that we can easily extend its length up to more then 120 miles

Architecture of FDDI:
The architecture of the fiber distributed data interface based upon the different parts. The basic part of FDDI on which the whole architecture depends is the dual rings that consist of the data transmission in the opposite direction. With the help of this architecture two types of networks originated one is based on the optical cables and other is on the copper wires. Primary or the secondary rings take part in the communication through FDDI. Generally primary rings are involved during the data transmission through fiber distributed data interface line but if the primary fails to do its job so then secondary takes the charge of transmission.

Types of Fiber Distributed Data Interface:
Like others fiber distributed data interface categorized into two different types that can perform the data transferring task. These two types of FDDI are as follows
Single Mode Interface:
It is type of fiber distributed data interface that deals with single ray passing through it while transmission is called as the single mode interface. In the working of single interface there is no obstacle between the data flowing through it

Multi Mode Interface:
Another important type of fiber distributed data interface is the multi mode transmission. In this type different number of rays passing through it as it is clear from its name. Some times these lines are confused in data transmission because different rays passing through the single point.

Specifications of FDDI:
Some of the important specifications of the fiber distributed data interface are as follows; they are able to control the media control access or MAC addresses. They also deal with the physical layer protocols. The ports that are used in the working of the FDDI are called as DAS and they are attached with the rings of the FDDI. Fiber distributed data interfaces are also used to tolerate the different faults occurred in the data transmission. Another important feature of the fiber distributed data interface is that if the primary rings fail to transmit the data then secondary rings take the charge, this also happens on the breakdown of the cable.

Advantages of Fiber Distributed Data Interface:
As FDDI is completely based upon the fiber optics so it has many advantages for the advanced users that really ply an important role in the faster networking. Some of the important benefits of the fiber distributed data interface are as follows

  1. They provide faster networking to the users with the help of fiber optic and copper cables also
  2. Fiber optical cables there are used in the FDDI are more secure as compared to other copper wires used for networking
  3. Fiber distributed data interface line can tolerate the faults and there is no noise of electromagnetic waves in the transmission
  4. The major advantage of the fiber distributed data interface is that it has ability to transmit data among long distances with faster speed with the help of different repeaters used in the connection
  5. Dual rings technology in the FDDI is really helpful for the users to prevent the distortion.
