Dsl concept - Concept of working of dsl technology
Post by Jawad Ahmad Riaz
DSL stands for Digital Subscriber Line and it is defined as the internet or the broadband service that is provided by the telephony service and the telecom companies is called as DSL. Basically the service is based upon the digital lines or the fiber optics and is very helpful in doing the communication between the two places. This device is designed to increase the bandwidth of the old line that really benefited the customers to enjoy the high speed internet and communicational services. As compared to the internet service provided by the modems DSL is quite better and have high speed of transmission.
Origin of DSL:
DSL is not a new technology but it is originated form the old telephone lines. Copper wires that are used to build the connection between the telephone set and the telephone lines are mainly responsible for the development of the DSL. If we move back in 80s then we come to know about the origin of the digital subscriber line because its standards are completely based upon the ISDN and with the further changes and researches it become a powerful source of the networking in 2009.
Concept of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL):
All the concept and the history of the digital subscriber line is based upon the interface service of digital networks ISDN that was published in 1984. As we know that DSL is based upon the digital telephone lines that are used for the voice calling. This service is developed by the telecom companies for the sake of the high speed internet technology for their customers. Basically DSL is based on the frequencies that are generated to carry on the telephone service. All the frequencies having a voice quality are used by the customers for the voice calling and on the other hand all the non voice frequencies are used by the digital subscriber line for the sake of the data transmission from one place to another a very high speed. So all the concept of the DSL comes out from the telephone line and become a good source of transmission of data in the field of networking.
Configuration of DSL:
As, we know that DSL is related with digital telephone line so, new installation or configuration is not required. First install the network interface card in the system that is generally called as NIC. After installing the card turn on the DSL networking device and then plug the one end of the Ethernet cable in the input port and second end pf the cable in the NIC card of the system. After arranging or installing the pats properly make the connection and enjoy high speed internet facility
Forms of DSL:
DSL is not present only in the typical form but it is present on different forms that are used by the users in different ways. Some important forms of the DSL are as follows
- Asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL)
- Symmetric digital subscriber line (SDSL)
- Radial digital subscriber line (RDSL)
Advantages of DSL:
DSL is the technology that provides the customer a high speed internet technology and the easy way for the communication. Some important benefits of the digital subscriber line are as follows
- It provide the high speed internet technology without interrupting the voice calls carried pout at the same time of using of connection
- It is an inexpensive technology because it need no new configuration because ir is applicable on the old digital telephone lines
- With the help of DSL users can enjoy the facility of the high speed downloading and uploading of the media files and important6 documentation
