Moore’s law of technology holds that the numbers of transistors that can be inserted on a single integrated circuit are doubling every two years. The performance and efficiency of the modern digital devices is closely linked with the Moore’s law. The production of processors and related products is at its peak today. The fierce competitions among the manufacturers and demand for the improved versions of processors have led to real development in this sector. No doubt processor is the most important part of the computer. The immense development in the processors is contributed to the Intel and AMD greatly.

The Future of Microprocessors

The performances of the processors have increased over time and the modern processors named as microprocessors, are really small logical circuits which are today’s processors. Microprocessors are built on the design of micro architecture. These chips contain many transistors almost around 47 million on a single die. The main function of the microchips is to perform computations like comparing numbers and carrying them to different areas. The efficiency and low power consumption of these chips have made them extreme popular and more development is continued. The chips are shrinking and the performance of the personal computers is increasing day by day. The development in microprocessors can also be contributed to the emergence and rise of small portable digital devices. The production of the micro processors like Intel Atom and that of the AMD is Phenom, Athlon and Champlain.

Competition in among the Manufacturers
The development in the processors is continued and does not seem to end, and may never end. This is because the two major manufacturers of processors Intel and AMD are in neck to neck fight to each other and are determined to beat each other. However Intel is ahead of its competitors and is contributing immensely in developing this sector. Each year or even twice a year Intel introduces new products. Like it happened in 2007 when Intel introduced many versions of core 2 duo processors in the same year. Analyst supports the fact that the demand for the processors having microchips will increase in the coming years. There can be two reasons for this statement. One reason is that microprocessors are more efficient and the demand for microprocessors is coming even from the third world countries. As the awareness regarding the new models of the processors is increasing the development in the processors is also increasing. The manufactures are trying to enhance the overall efficiency of the processors. The recent development in processors technology can be seen in the Intel’s effort to employ multi core architecture.

Important Requirements for Development
The development in the processors did not come over night. The research of many years is linked closely with this growth. Today the companies have reached to a point when they are capable to arrange many million transistors on a one die or 2 die system. The mergence of quad processors is the recent addition in the processors having removed the previous deficiencies residing in the processors. The processors are now developed on the principles like low power consumption, high speed, seamless performance and internet connectivity. Moreover the ability to perform multiple tasks having the characteristics of multi threading and support for software SMT (simultaneous multiple threading). The demand for the microprocessors is increasing both in the business world and among domestic users. Therefore the Intel’s new processors range like Intel’s atom, Xeon Quad core and Xeon Eight core are on the move. It can be said that 2012/13 are the years of development for technology and most importantly for the processors. Processors are the mind and heart of the computers and nothing can be improved without improving the processors.
